Day 5 – Glenriding to Coppull, Chorley

Day 5 – Tuesday 23rd July. Glenriding to Coppull (Chorley area, including going up Kirkstone Pass) . Approx 75 miles.

Feeling very happy today. A great day of biking- no head wind and no panniers weighing me down. Seeing Matt and Tess get up Kirkstone Pass on the tandem set me up for the day. Ben Adelnoor (Ambleside AC runner and good friend) and Richard (Hazel’s sister’s partner) rode while Dave Banks provided some great road support.

Today’s main philosophical moments were when passing Lancaster Oncology Unit and Preston hospital. Last time Ben brought me there was for radiotherapy (as part of a daily treatment for five weeks), on a far more ‘overcast’ day.  I wasn’t expecting this challenge to evoke so many memories which are broken into time by ‘before Tess’, ‘before cancer’, ‘during cancer’ and ‘after’, but so many memories are associated with places.

Anyway I am now looking forward to an evening with Darren and Alison Fishwick and Rachel Slattery before an early night in preparation for a BIG day tomorrow.
